The Gallivant Hotel is located in East Sussex along one of the last undiscovered coastlines in the UK.

An enormous sandy beach is a 3 minute walk over the sand dunes and stretches for miles in either direction.  It is deserted 90% of the year.

There are a number of great walks to be enjoyed as you step out of the hotel – along the beach of course, ‘right’ towards the mouth of the river that leads into Rye or ‘left’ towards the kite surfers and Dungeness.  Rye itself is only a 30 minute walk across the salt marshes.

For longer trips bikes are available to hire to take advantage of the myriad cycle paths that criss-cross the area and nature reserves around us, an excellent way to spend a day out with a picnic from the Bistro in your basket.

A little further afield the ancient town of Rye, 4 miles from the hotel, is steeped in history with cobbled streets, character pubs and many antique shops.

Dungeness, about 8 miles away is an extraordinary shingle headland jutting into the English Channel, once the home to a thriving fishing community, its collection of boats, lighthouses and ramshackled huts has become the backdrop to many photo shoots. It is also the starting point of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch miniature railway that meanders north up the coast

In the opposite direction the Old Town of Hastings is fast becoming a mecca for the artistic set with downsizing Londoners opening artisan food stores and boutiques wherever you look.
